Sean Kingston in Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwean Mentality.

How are you today? Easter Sunday it is and I hope you are all recovering from your hangovers and what not. Today I want to discuss the Sean Kingston show, I may not have been there but with the power of the internet and a few discussions with friends of mine that did attend the show, I have gathered enough information to speak and express my view on the subject.
So basically Sean Kingston (Kisean Anderson) a 20 year old baby face Jamican-American singer who has many hit songs such as Fire Burning, Letting Go, Beautiful girls just a few to mention was scheduled to arrive in Zimbabwe on Wednesday the 20th of April, but did not end up doing so because of some delays in the United States, he did end up arriving in Harare on Thursday the 21st of April. Sean Kingston performing last night (Saturday 23 of April). According to those who went, Sean Kingston performed a "few" songs. The tickets where priced $20 for a regular ticket and $100 for a VIP ticket, which is quadropule the price of the regular and I have a question as to why it cost that much and what "special treatment" those who paid $100 received. In Zimbabwe $100 is a substantial amount of money and it doesn't come around easy, $100 is approximately £60.00 and I know that I could personally doquite a bit with that money.
Anyway, a few individuals that I spoke to who did infact attend the show expressed their emotions of anger and told me that they where not impressed at all and wished they had wasted their benjamins on something else. Apparently Sean Kingston's performance was not what people have expected it to be, I quote "It was too short, he was lip syncing, he wasn't prepared for the show and the audience was not chuffed at all" (chuffed meaning impressed). I was horrified at the fact that Sean Kingston was lip syncing (if he really was), I personally believe that if you are doing a live show, IT SHOULD BE LIVE and an artist should ROCKKK the stage and give the audience what they paid for even though it shouldn't just be for the money, but I as a singer believe that you should put your ALL into what you do.To be honest right now, my heart is pacing with fury and because of the fact that my people where ripped off, they paid to see SEAN KINGSTON perform LIVE and MAKE THEIR DREAMS COME TRUE. But they just got a few songs which had been lip synced, *might aswell just listen on the radio. I believe that Sean Kingston and the promoters used Sean Kingstons "name/reputation" to play the people and "hype them up" so to speak. Maybe he and his "entourage" thought people in Africa didn't really know much about music and would be satisfied with a lousy performance... Only God knows.

I do have to give thanks to the Zimbabwean artists that performed because it seems like they actually rocked it more than he did. I have a few questions, why is it that these performances only occur when a "BIG" foreigner comes and performs? Why is it that Zimbabweans do not get as much support and street rep from their fellow Zimbabweans? Why are certain Zimbabweans who live in the Diaspora afraid to admit that they are Zimbabweans, some imitate the Jamaican accent, and pretend to be who they are not. Why do  soo many Zimbabweans have this mentality? I would really like to know... And there has also been a lot of talk about DJ's not playing Zimbabwean music at various Zimbabwe Indepence events, I mean Zim Independence is a day where people should gather, reflect about the independence,  celebrate, be happy and show pride of their country. The least you would expect is for DJ's to be playing Zimbabwean Music if not for the whole night.. What is it with some of us ,not showing pride in our country. Our parents, grandparents and ancestors endured a lot for us to get to where we are now, they fought for us to have what they didn't have and the least we can do is be proud of where we come from and also uplift each other.

Just food for thought, if you have answers to any of my questions then feel free to comment and tell me your views. Thanks for reading..x Quein Siingah
